We all know why drivers have their driving skills tested again later in life. Our skills erode. Well guess what, as experienced Realtors our skills erode too and even though many of us are pro’s we need to be in continuous training to keep abreast of market trends and new technology.
I don’t go on nearly as many listing appointment as I used to, there was a time when it was not uncommon for me to have 3 listing appointments in a single day and as many as 10 12- for the week. Back then I was on a 50% split and houses selling for as $70K, in fact back in when I look back at my records in 1997 my average sales price for the year was $119K. So out of necessity I went on lots of appointment. Funny how times change one listing today would almost equal my weeks work ten years ago. No wonder why everyone got a real estate license.
Now when I go out on a listing appointment I feel that ring rust, my presentation is not as smooth as it used to be, and that is because I don’t do it often enough. I see my new associates coming back from MLS training at the board and they show me tools on the MLS that I am not always aware of. My way of staying abreast of market trends, systems and technology is by subscribing to Howard Brintons Star Power Club . Every month Howard interviews a top agent in North America, who is doing the business and in many cases doing 200-300 plus deals annually. I am able to learn about all the techniques that these stars are using and keep up, so all of my skills don’t erode from sitting behind a desk. I’m also better able to help my associates build their business.
Now guys especially you pro’s out their don’t be lulled into a false sense of security if your not out there at these seminars with the young up and coming Realtors, you will be left in the dust of change.
