The title of this blog is so true I think that all of us have experienced the leaking of our visions. We have a vision and we get our team pumped up, only to find that in a few days, weeks or months that the optimism and the excitement has leaked out. You real estate brokers and mangers know what I mean. Being a Realtor and an office manager, I certainly have a lot of first hand knowledge and witnessed this leakage in many of my associate’s.
Over the years I have seen new licensees come into our business, they have a vision, it may not be accurate of our business but it is a vision. During the early days and weeks they come into the office early, attend the basic training that their company puts on and if not encouraged almost daily, all of that vision they had when they started will have leaked out in a matter of just a few weeks. You must continue to reinforce that vision on a regular basis. So what do we do
about all this vision leaking all over our offices?
As I have said vision will leak without consistent attention being paid to it. In order to motivate others to keep the vision it may be necessary to reach them in a personal way as to how this will benefit them. What I mean by this is that too many real estate companies vision is about their bottom line and not their most precious assets their associates; money does not motivate people, but rather money is the by-product of passionate motivated people. In order to keep your team motivated with the vision, the vision must be about how the company will help them become successful and accomplish their vision for themselves and their families, and once successful how they will now have the opportunities to give back to the world what the world has given to them, not about how many sales they to need to make to become the top producer.
Think about it, vision is what we see down the road it is the blueprint for building. When Walt Disney was on his death bed one of his top executive was paying him a final visit when he remarked to Disney’s wife, “if only he could have lived to see it.” Disney’s wife responded, “Oh he has seen it, for if he hadn’t the project would never have begun.
Walt Disney continued to see that vision even on his death bed and in order for your vision to stay alive you first, must see it, live it, and share it with your team on a very regular basis.
