Knowledge is everything, it is king, it is power, it is leadership, and it has the ability to influence others. The Lyon Company’s goal is simple to help others to become leaders. We know that in order for our small company to grow and get to the next level the current leaders must be in the business of developing and training and influencing others to lead.
This year we decided along with our annual and quarterly awards plaques that we would also give the recipient a book on leadership, or real estate or some other business related topic in order to develop greater skills, which would in turn help grow their business and as individuals..
I recently had an occasion to give someone a book on a topic and area that they put considerable love and time into and they replied, “I don’t see how this applies to me.” I was stunned and I thought that’s like person who is hard of hearing asking how a hearing aid pertained to them or, how a pair of dentures would pertain to a toothless person.
Unfortunately most people are like these individual, they miss the true potential that life has to offer them. I guess that being a book enthusiast, I did not realize what little importance books are to those who are stuck in a rut, but then again I guess that’s why they are always getting stuck in lifes ruts.
As leaders of our business it is our duty, if we wish our business to succeed to find those diamonds who wish to grow and help them to become leaders.
