Good leaders don’t pander to their followers. Good leaders lead their followers to the objective by being truthful with them. Good leadership is not politics where you tell the people whom you want to follow you what they want to hear, because usually for most people what they want to hear is not necessarily what’s good for them, you or your organization in the long run. Oh by the way the definition of “pander” in Encarta Dictionary; is to indulge somebody's weaknesses or questionable wishes and tastes.
Over the years when I was actively listing and selling homes I would have agents in the office that I was in at the time, come and ask me for tips on success, I can tell you that most of those that I spoke with, hung their heads and walked away, The sacrifice was too great a burden for them to pay to achieve success.
Success is similar to the teaching of Jesus “The Narrow and Wide Gates” For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction of our (real estate careers), and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life in (our real estate careers) and only a few find it. This clearly give us the 80-20 rule here, many get licensed, few succeed. Why? They take the wide gate and broad road.
To be an effective leader you must have effective followers, pandering and sugar coating the truth about what one must do will not make people effective. What one must do as author John Maxwell wrote is to “trade up” “Life is filled with trade offs, but you can trade up only if you have something to sacrifice. So what do you have to sacrifice, let me help you, How about beginning with money for education, time management to keep you on track and self discipline to stretch and do the things in our business that other are uncomfortable doing.
