Being Blessed With Enough Foolishness

Ever had negative people in your life? Those that operate from a position of scarcity, the half empty glass, people that tell you to keep your feet on the ground and get your head out of the clouds, don't go out on a limb over that. Well many of us are blessed with enough foolishness in our lives that we are willing to go out on the limb when others say it can’t be done.

In 1977 Ken Olsen president of Digital Equipment Corporation stated. “There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home. No wonder this guy developed a complex that every time he opened his front door he imagined all his neighbors were laughing and he was never able to get them to share the joke with him. (just joking)

In 1975 George Lucas the film maker had an idea about using special effect in a science fiction movie; the experts said the type of special effects Lucas was talking about could not be done. Lucas persisted and made the movie “Star Wars”.

Star Wars, being a huge success made him enough money to bankroll the sequel to Star Wars. Lucas then formed a company that he named Industrial Light and Magic, ILM. ILM grew quickly and has now set the standard for special effects and to date has provided the special effects of eight of the ten highest grossing movies in history. These so called experts that Lucas consulted were using old thinking.

Lucas is a typical example of someone blessed with enough foolishness and determination to see his vision through regardless of what the so called experts had to say.

I’ll end with a quote from a so called expert on transportation in 1913 “It is an idle dream to imagine that automobiles will take the place of railways in the long distance movement of passengers” American Road Congress.
