Ever wonder if your team is wondering where you are? Well if you are, you have good reason to wonder because while your team members are wonder about your whereabouts they are also loosing their respect for you. As a team leader you are especially accountable to others.
Many think that if we are in a position of authority, the check book, we are above accountability. This is where it begins, the tail must follow the head, if the head shows up late so will the body of the team, if the head disappears during business hours without notifying the team as to where he or she is going expect the body of the team to follow and do the same.
As in everything in life, there is a leader and there are followers, remember as kids when you played follow the leader, well back then if you were like most kids you would do crazy things hoping your followers would not follow. Well real life is a little different you do want them to follow, but in order for it to be good and beneficial to all, the team leader must lead by example.
So the next time you want to disappear for a few hours let your team know where you are going, and when you’ll return, and if you don’t want them to know, well maybe you should pursuit those activities after business hours.
Follow this simple rule of accountability and your followers will continue to follow, and that’s good leadership.
