As a real estate office manager and broker, I am in the business of taking people on a journey so they can become all they can be. The question is, are you willing to grow and make the journey to the top of the mountain?
Everyone has potential they just need to believe it; many see the light at the end of the tunnel, are convinced it’s the train coming. In order to bring the potential out in others you must believe in them and they must know and feel the faith you have in them. Many find it difficult to begin the project because they either don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, and if they do, they think they are about to be run over.
At The Lyon Company we have a free coaching program named Championship Coaching. On many occasions I have had agents in my office that have expressed an interest about getting to the next level and inquired about the coaching program. Before getting started in the program I ask them complete a seven page question and answer section with questions about their goals and present tools they are using, areas they may be farming and their present sources of business. I also ask that they make a commitment, to be accountable, be self disciplined by showing up which I believe is the first step of personal growth. Without discipline one will find it extremely difficult to get to first base. I ask that when they complete the questionnaire to let me know so we can schedule a time for our first meeting, at least 80 percent never completes the questionnaire, or even mention coaching again they continue on as thought we had never ever spoke about them entering the coaching program and climbing to the next level. I believe it is the climb that most shy away from; if this was a downhill event the numbers enrolling would be reversed, because going downhill easy, you can coast all the way to the bottom and that is what most do, is go to the bottom, while the champions climb to the top. Those that do complete the questionnaire are the future champions of life providing they continue to stretch. For those that never take the time to grow personally or professionally, I guess that’s what John Maxwell calls a mystery of the mind as to why few do, and most don’t.
For those that completed the questionnaire they are the future prospects who will be leaders not only in real estate but in life. Coaching and mentoring is not something that you attend once or twice, it is an ongoing commitment for personal and professional growth throughout ones life. Many Realtors seek coaching only in their professional or sales life and therefore build a poor foundation for lasting success. I think the greater portion of mentoring and coaching is in the area of personal growth, those who master sales without the personal side stand on a weak foundation, the strongest part of this foundation is the personal, where you learn to build the real strengths of character, integrity, self discipline and values based on truth. The Super Star Success highways are littered with the casualties of well trained performers from all walks of life, who lacked the values based on absolute truths, and without those values it is equivalent of one driving down an interstate highway in the wrong direction, you are a head on collision waiting to happen.
So as in any project you must lay a strong foundation which will be able to support and maintain your success throughout your life.
