Responsibility Leads to Success

Let us take on responsibility in our real estate careers by making the commitment to getting trained professionally and by stepping up in life to achieve success. John Maxwell in his book Talent Is Never Enough writes. Nothing adds muscle to talent like responsibility. It lifts talent to a new level and increases its stamina. I realize that responsibility is often the last choice people desire to make. The result is “flabby” talent that fails to perform and never realizes it’s potential. How sad for the person who fails to take responsibility. Author and Editor Michael Korda said “Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibility…In the final analysis, the one quality that all successful people have…. Is the ability to take on responsibility?” If you desire success, make responsibility your choice.

I recently read a story of a european duchess who hired a man to care for her dog. One day the duchess summoned the servant and said “James I hired you to care for my dog.” Yes your grace” replied James. “Well James that dog died 27 years ago. Yes your grace, what would you have me do now.” James obviously did not take to responsibility very well, or he would have found something else to do in the 27 years since the dog died.

In Talent Is Never Enough Maxwell writes; what you start finish, there are two kinds of people in the world: those who do and those who might. Writer Ben Ames Williams observed, “Life is the acceptance of responsibilities or their evasion; it is a business of meeting obligations or avoiding them. To every man the choice is continually being offered, and by the manner of his choosing, you may fairly measure him.”

Maxwell writes further, many people sit back and wait for someone else to step up and take responsibility. Sometimes that is because of weak character-laziness, lack of resolve, and so on. But more often it comes from poor judgment or low self esteem. People believe that someone else is more qualified or better situated to stand up and make a difference. But the truth is that most of the people who make the difference do so not because they are the best for the job but because they decided to try.

So I would recommend that if your target is success that you step up and take on responsibility now.
