Giving up is hard to do when you have made that big effort in your business. As Realtors we are continually building our practice, trying to put our systems in place to better serve our customers, which can lead to a lot of expense, time and effort.
For most companies and individual Realtor’s these are tough times, some have already closed or found new jobs and many are still thinking of quitting and closing up shop. For those of you with no surrender in you it’s probably because of the sustained effort and passion that you have put into building your business. Playwright Noel Coward commented, “Thousands of people have talent. I might as well congratulate you for having eye s in your head. The one and only thing that a count’s is: Do you have staying power.”
John Maxwell writes in his book Talent Is Never Enough, one problem of many people is that they underestimate what it will take to succeed. Enlightenment political philosopher Montesquieu declared, “In most things success depends on knowing how long it takes to succeed.” When we have not counted the cost of success, we approach challenges with mere interest; what is really required is total commitment. And that makes all the difference. We would be wise to remember the words of former NBA player, coach and executive Jerry West: “you can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days you feel good.”
When the dust settles and all is said and done in this difficult real estate market the ones left standing are the companies and Realtors who have prepared well, are committed, passionate and have put tremendous efforts into their businesses. There will be no surrender in that group and they will emerge, as the leaders in our industry, some will be new and others will once again emerged from just another storm of economic recession. Let us take our hats off to them for their tremendous navigation skill and outstanding efforts.
