Preparation = Success

Success is all in the preparation says Pat Summitt, legendary coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers Basketball Team, he notes that “everybody wants to win. But few people are willing to prepare to win. There is not much you can control in life, but how hard you work is within your control. Success comes when opportunity and preparedness meet and performers learn to prepare when there is no applause or positive feedback.”

I recently had the pleasure of meeting one of the Keyes Companies top practitioners and one of real estates big stars Raul Santidrian. Now I knew Raul’s reputation as a major producer and was quite familiar with his 10-20 color page display of homes in the Broward and Miami Dade real estate magazines. Being a Broker and always looking for talent while trying to motivate and get my associates to grow and stretch for the next level in their careers, I am always excited to meet someone who has reached the level of success that Raul has obtained. I found Raul to be genuine, and passionate about what he was doing, which explained a great deal to me about his success.

A short time after my meeting with Raul he invited me to a seminar that he was holding at a local hotel. Being a person that always arrives early, I observed Raul, and his wife Paula along with an assistant while they were setting up the equipment and testing it. Once the presentation began I could immediately see how well Raul was prepared, he knew the script and he knew it well, in a previous conversation I had with Raul he had told me that he had listen to and watched the presentation at least 10 times before attempting it himself. After observing him for several minutes I now knew what made him so successful, without question it was his preparedness. Then without warning the microphone began to cut in and out, and went dead, the audience of about 100 shouted that they could not hear him. Being the pro and always prepared, Raul quickly diagnosed the problem and announced it was the battery and he had an extra in his briefcase which he promptly put in and continued on. Now that truly is preparation and all the questions in my mind about Raul Sanitarians success were answered. Without Raul’s preparation the seminar could have been a disaster.

In Chris Brady and Orin Woodwards book Launching a Leadership Revolution they write Christian Laettner who played basketball under coach Mike Kryzewski ay Duke University, said “We won championships at Duke because of what happened behind closed doors. The preparation is where success is truly found .” According to astronaut John Glenn.

So I dear you to go where the pro’s go, and to go there you must prepare.
