We all know what a blind spot is right? Just in case you’re not sure, the term is typically used when driving, it’s that spot to the side of your car that the rear view mirror does not cover. Well in life we also have our blind spots and the question is who has yours?
Guess what; no matter what we do in life we all have our blind spots, there just different and probably based on our individual personalities. The Merriam Webster’s online dictionary defines ones blind spot as an area in which one fails to exercise judgment or discrimination.
I have been told that one of my blind spots is, not seeing things from the other person’s point of view. Knowing this I need to be sensitive when listening to others, but doing this on my own is difficult. My wife Monin helps me in this area, and an example of this, she is a great back seat driver, I sometimes think she actually drive better from the third row than when she is behind the wheel. Monin is usually in the co-pilots seat, but on occasions she is actually in that 3rd row of our Land Rover when we have a full load, yes surprisingly she can back seat drive from that far back, she has my blind spot. Now I hate it when she gives me the heads up when I think I have it under control, but the truth is she has saved us more times than I can count. I do hope she reads this blog, as she frequently tells me I don’t give her enough credit.
In life we need this back seat driver to give us the heads up, when we are entering one of our blind spot of weakness in our lives. Now that's not easy, on occasions I snap at Monin when she saves us from near misses and rear end crashes, many of your acquaintances don’t want you snapping at them. So let us recognize the areas in which we are blind, and in some cases willfully blind and get a back seat driver, a true friend, mentor, or coach in our life to reduce the number of those sudden impacts we experience in our professional and personal lives
