What’s Your Statement?

In November 2006 when my grandson was born I was visiting with mother and baby at Memorial East in Hollywood. On the Elevator ride up to the maternity ward there was a young man riding the elevator up with me. What I noticed was, he had a shirt on that basically described himself as a bad dude and he would kick your you know what, yet around his neck was a crucifix. I could not help wondering if this young man had multiple personalities or, was just plain confused, he was making statements about two very conflicting points of view. I did not ask him, as I wasn’t sure what personality he was at the time.

So I ask you what statement you are making about life and your profession. When you wear a team shirt, cap you’re saying, I support that team. Which brings me to the point of this blog, everything you do or don’t do as a professional Realtor is a statement about how you feel towards your customers, it also reflects positively or negatively on your company and fellow associates within that company.

As I talk to the pro’s in our business and ask them why they choose the company they are with, the answers are usually the same, the number one answer from these top performers is integrity, second most given answer is, the professionalism of the other agents within that office. They go on to tell me that they will not show or deal with agents or companies who are making a statement of I don’t care, just a few bad statements within any office can prevent it’s listings from being shown by the top agents, who by the way have the best and most qualified buyers, that’s why they are the top agents.

Here is what we frequently see the; REMARKS SECTION LEFT BLANK agent is either too lazy, or just a low level thinker and chooses not to exercise their brain to say anything good about his or her listing which they stand to make thousands of dollars on when sold, they don’t even consider that’s why they were hired in the first place. THE STATEMENT: I don’t care weather the property even gets shown and I sell it. NO DIRECTIONS: or see Map Quest. STATEMENT; I don’t really care if the showing agents find it or not, not to mention lack of room sizes, missing lot sizes and living area size, sloppy showing instructions.

So I ask you, what statements you are making to your customers, and about your company and fellow associates. Managers and Brokers I suggest you stop worrying about offending these sloppy agents and have a friendly talk with them because they are destroying your business and our profession. Worry about assisting those who take pride in their profession and are making the right statements about themselves, you and your company.
