Team Members Must Be Engaged

How do team leaders motivate and keep their team members engaged. Well first of all as the leader you must be fully engaged with your team. To accomplish this you want to be able keep your entire teams bucket full. By this I mean all members of the team need to be busy.

Now most of you are probably thinking well that’s easier said than done especially in this market. Let’s think about it. If you have two buyers’ agents, and they are only talking to three buyer prospects a day between them you’re over staffed. If your listing co-coordinator job only takes her 4 hours a day, maybe have her take over the administrative duties.

The team must be fully engaged not sitting around, because idleness just be-gets more idleness. If you want to keep your team engaged, consider having one of the buyer specialists begin to work FSBO’s trying to build relationships to be able to sell them their next home, while at the same time generating a listing opportunity. If team members are not willing or unable to cross their current lines of responsibilities then, consider termination. The health of your team is important as idle hands can be a contagious condition.

The point here is that in a slow market if we sit around waiting for it to recover we will be out of shape to take advantage of it when it does, like not going to the gym for a period of time. By keeping your team active and engaged, not only will your current productivity be higher, you are also maintaining a market presence which will serve you well in the near future.
