Performers Win Anyway

I recently had a conversation or maybe I should call it a debate with Dan Crispino an associate in the office on what’s FAIR and what’s not. I had recently read or heard on an audio that the only level playing field is time, yes we all have the same twenty four hours every day, three hundred and sixty five days a year. What we choose to do with this time is up to us. That’s all that’s fair in life, time.

Chris Brady and Orrin Woodward in their book Launching a Leadership Revolution, write that performers know that life is “not fair.” There will be no shortage of people who do us wrong, cheat, lie and steal. Performers take it in to account and strive for excellence anyway, focusing only on what they can control

In real estate it’s not always fair. Some agents get hired and we wonder how. I believe that not always but often those who know their scripts, are consistent with their follow up, get the price reductions and keep the parties informed tend to usually end up with the deal.

There is a saying in sports that a team must play well enough to outperform the referees. Brady and Woodward write; this means that sometimes the calls don’t go your way. A championship team expects this and determines to play well enough to compensate for two or three unfair calls. This is how any of us aspiring to become Performers must behave. We must prepare and perform well enough to outrun any unfair setbacks that come up along the way.

Life is not fair and sooner or later that is true for everyone. Performers know this and win anyway.
