Do you return your calls promptly? One of my peeves about our profession is how few of us return calls, it is also a complaint that I hear from buyers and sellers frequently. They will call on a sign or add and the agent will never call back, hard to understand, but true. Agents will call for showing instructions leave a message and silence, strange behavior for people who are trying to make a living.
Over the years I have actually spoken with many agents who have promised to call back as soon as they end their current call, well you guessed it silence. I don’t understand their lack of commitment and professionalism. We wish to be taken seriously and ask for respect from our customers, yet we don’t respect ourselves or our fellow agents. No wonder why the public has such a low opinion of us, we created it.
My personal policy as to returning phone calls are simple all business related calls will be returned by the end of business. This does not include weekends or holidays. As professionals we are constantly bombarded by everyone with anything to sell and they constantly interrupting our already busy days, if you don’t wish to call back, politely ask if they would be kind enough to call you at a more convenient time like four to six months as you are not in a position to consider their offer at this time, don’t just ignore them like a moron, if you haven’t set up a timeline for a future call they will call and interrupt you again, except now there opinion of you is so much lower.
To earn respect you must give it to everyone, by honoring your commitment, in this case calling back, not doing so is assign of weak character and some unable to keep their word. I know, tough to do, but necessary if you wish to earn the respect of others and excel in business
