We all develop habits from early childhood; most of these habits are what would be considered every day chores such as turning on and off the lights putting on our shoes and combing our hair. The habits that I am writing about here are the habits that need to learn and require self discipline if intend to seek a full and prosperous life for ourselves and family.
The good habits that we need to develop in our professional lives, specifically real estate, I think we know what they are but let us just go over a few of them again.
Over the years I have seen new licensees arrive at the office at 8:00 AM to begin their day, when I was with a large company, and before getting into management I would watch as they browse through their new and unfamiliar office, trying to figure out where to begin and how to fit in. Most of these new licensees came from the typical employee back ground and were required to show up at an appointed time. What they were now doing was what they had been conditioned to do in their past work life. Now suddenly they find themselves independent and have choices, and suddenly they have to develop their own habits and not live by their previous employers.
This new independent lifestyle has no lids or glass ceilings, but that also works the other way too it’s bottomless so you can fall pretty deep. It is up to the individual to begin forming good work habits and taking the initiative, such as rising early to get their day in order so they are not attacked by what every new day has to offer. There are many other areas that the successful form habits in, from setting aside a portion of their income to pay Uncle Sam, developing a farming strategy, time to prospect and follow up with customers. And let us not forget the training and coaching that we all need.
If initiative and habits are not learned early and stuck to, the individual will undoubtedly fail initially. In order for people to form good habits they must have a passion, self discipline and a desire to succeed at the chosen endeavor, passion being the most important. Bill O’Reilly last night on The O’Reilly Factor made a statement about our presidential candidates, it went something like this, the one behind in the poles, and his campaign was suffering from the lack of passion while the candidate with passion was clearly leading even though he lacked substance. Passion is King. Get it, and the rest falls into place.
